How do I know if my guitar needs setting up?

The ability to play a musical instrument should be an immensely pleasurable experience for both the artist and the audience.  But if you’re finding your guitar is more difficult to play than usual, then the action might have changed meaning your guitar could be due a set up.

What is action and why would it change?

The action is the distance between the strings and fingerboard (the wooden board you press against when you fret a note). If the action is too high you will find it harder to press the string down and the notes may sound out of tune, even if the guitar is perfectly in tune. If the action is too low, notes may not sound or you may hear excessive fret noise.  There are several factors that contribute towards a guitars action changing. Humidity and temperature  are usually the biggest culprits other factors include changing the gauge of string you use, this effects the tension on the neck and will change how your guitar plays sounds and feels.

Provided there is no structural damage to the instrument correcting the action is a ‘bread and butter’ service for Bassingfield Guitars.

Help, My electric guitar has stopped working! Don't Panic!

Contrary to popular belief, there are only a small number of electrical components inside an electric guitar: meaning, most electrical problems in a standard electric guitar or bass can be repaired quickly and cost effectively.

These are just a few of the services Bassingfield Guitars currently offer.
